Shirei Shabbat - Heshvan 5778

Musical, family-friendly shabbat service, followed by a delicious shabbat dinner and a presentation by scholar-in-residence, Dr. Rachel Korazim.

Join friends at Knesset Israel for an energizing, musical Friday evening service, then stay for a delicious, kosher shabbat dinner, prepared by Chris Goetze.

After dinner, our dynamic Wildman Shabbaton scholar-in-residence, Dr. Rachel Korazim, will teach on the theme: "Connections to the Land". The core Zionist narrative of Israel presents an unbroken, unwavering connection between the people of Israel and its land. True as that is, individuals have also expressed doubts, pain and critique as an aspect of their particular attachment to Israel. We will explore works by Yitzhak Shalev, Rachel, Nathan Alterman, Yehuda Amichai, Ephraim Kishon, Balfour Hakak, Lysie Doron and Amos Oz.

Dr. Korazim has a knack for sharing three-dimensional snapshots of Israeli culture and history that bring the country and its people to life. This is not the Israel of the pulpit, the news or the Jewish Agency: This is the Israel of the living room, an authentic and complicated experience we can sink our teeth into.

KI's annual Wildman Shabbaton Scholar-in-Residence program was endowed by Dr. Karl and Dorothy Wildman, of blessed memory.
