Hebrew School Registration 2017-18
July 31, 2017
Dear Families of Congregation Knesset Israel,
Thank you for sending your child/ren to the Knesset Israel Hebrew School and the Wednesday afternoon CHAI program, a partnership in Jewish education serving central Berkshire County. Last year we saw a great deal of growth and learning in every classroom and we look forward to the 5778/2017-18 school year, when we will have the opportunity to build on our successes and improve upon last year’s program.
This year’s program includes our Hebrew language focused CHAI program on Wednesdays for Kindergarten through 6th grade students. We are also excited to add new art curriculum to the schedule. The early drop off option for CHAI with supervised homework review and programming from 3:15pm to 3:45pm will continue to be offered this year. To take advantage of this option, please select it during the registration process. This year, the Bnai Mitzvah class will also meet on Wednesdays from 4pm to 6pm, as well as 9am-12pm on Saturdays. On Saturdays we will continue to offer our Preschool class and stimulating classes for all students from Kindergarten through High School. Shabbat classes & the bar/bat mitzvah class will meet at KI; Wednesdays afternoon classes will meet at Temple Anshe Amunim.
Our curriculum intends to prepare our students for Jewish lives imbued with meaning, knowledge and ruach (spirit). A detailed schedule and description of what to expect at each grade level appears in the handbook. We will continue this year with music class or Pre-K through 5th grade, taught by Jonathan Denmark, and “Soul” taught by Ben Strauss for our 6th grade. Both classes were introduced and well received last school year.
We are proud of our Hebrew School offerings and very grateful for all the community support that makes our program possible. It costs approximately $1300 per student to provide our program and it would not be possible without the following gracious community resources: Thank you to the many community members who share their time and expertise to facilitate our classes and provide comprehensive and wonderful educational opportunities for our students. Thank you to the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires for their commitment and generous support and subsidizing of all of our students’ tuition. The Jewish Federation welcomes contributions in general from Hebrew School families, and especially by those who are in a position to offset this subsidy. Thank you to our KI family for also underwriting our Hebrew School program. And thank you to all of you for your dedication and for sending your children to participate in our Jewish community here at KI.
Go to https://knessetisrael.org/ and click on Hebrew School Registration 2017-18 under RSVP now to complete the registration forms as soon as possible and no later than August 28, 2017. We welcome questions or comments about our program by phone or by email. Please see the last page of the handbook for contact information for myself, Rabbi David Weiner, and/or Esther Benari-Altmann.
KI is committed to Jewish education, and no student is ever turned away due to financial hardship. Please register – we will make financial aid available through an application process as needed.
Enjoy the summer,
